Matt Preston's review for Delicious magazine July 2005

"The Douglas. This excellent little network of self-contained accommodation, surrounded by lawns running down the bank of the river Moyne, has a spanking-new feel and lovely touches such as Genovese coffee supplied. They can be booked as B&B or self-contained rooms. We'd plump for the house right on the river. And staying here, you'll never have a problem getting a booking at Portofino restaurant - the Clancey brothers own that as well!!"

Douglas on River

Nestled on the banks of the Moyne River in the grounds of historic Douglas House, Douglas on River will captivate with it's tranquil riverfront garden setting. Constructed in 1852, over the years Douglas House served variously as Port Fairy's dispensary, post office, drapery store and shipping agent before it's conversion to guesthouse accommodation in 1901.

A short stroll from the town centre, and only a stone's throw from stunning East Beach, Douglas on River is far from the bustle of city life. With a range of rooms available, The Douglas offers you a chance to wind-down and escape in one of Port Fairy's most sought-after locations.

Whether you're visiting Port Fairy for it's renowned festivals, nearby golf course, abundant fishing or award-winning restaurants we'll make sure that your stay in Port Fairy is more than memorable.

Douglas on River can also host your wedding and other events - enquire today.
